New Hampshire Rules & Regulations

New Hampshire

Mold assessment certification is required from the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) or a similar ANSI-accredited body. Acceptable ACAC certifications include the Council-certified Microbial Investigator (CMI) or Consultant (CMC). Mold assessors cannot also perform mold remediation on the same property.

Mold remediators are not regulated, so strong training is what makes you stand out. PMII gives you the knowledge, structure, and confidence that clients look for, recognized industry standards, helping you deliver consistent, credible work, justify your pricing, and position yourself as the expert clients and real estate partners prefer to hire.

New Hampshire handles mold under its general habitability laws, primarily RSA 48-A and the state's implied warranty of habitability, which require landlords to maintain rental units in a safe and sanitary condition and to correct leaks, moisture intrusion, and other conditions that allow mold to develop. State health guidance notes that mold is treated as an unsanitary condition that can trigger enforcement by local health officers, who gather evidence and enforce applicable health and safety laws. These requirements mean that even without a mold-specific statute, landlords must address moisture problems that lead to mold, and tenants may document conditions, give written notice, and involve local inspectors when repairs are not made.

(Qualifies for 14 CECs for IICRC Renewal)

PMII's 24-hour, comprehensive Certified Mold Remediator (CMR) course will teach you how to remediate mold contamination for both large and small projects. You will learn how to contain and clean mold-affected areas, as well as how to find the source of the problem and repair it.

This in-depth, 12-lesson course will help you gain a thorough and in-depth knowledge of mold remediation including:

  • Making a preliminary determination, calculating costs, and contracting labor.
  • Determining the scope of the remediation project and developing a 5-step project plan.
  • How to perform Project Documentation to track the environmental conditions before and after the remediation.
  • Contaminant control and removal protocols along with contaminant prevention.
  • Creating negative air pressure differentials using HEPA-filtered ventilation equipment.
  • Removing contaminated porous/semi-porous materials and cleaning non-porous materials.
  • Structural remediation and contamination prevention methods.

The course includes a 3.5-hour online mold remediation DVD that takes you through a medium-sized mold remediation project using the steps outlined in the course. Understand how to determine the source, set-up containment and negative pressure, safely remove moldy materials, eliminate mold and protect surfaces from future mold growth. Also demonstrates mold clearance testing and analyzing the lab results from the project.

As you complete each lesson, you will use interactive flash cards and take practice quizzes that will test and verify your knowledge simultaneously through instant computerized feedback. Your computer records the results so you can easily track your progress. The course includes Remediation Proposal Templates you can use to calculate the estimated cost and timeline of the job. When you finish the course and pass the final exam, you will be a Certified Mold Remediator (CMR) and possess the knowledge and skills needed to start a full or part-time business.
